Pruning, Trimming, Shaping

Pruning, Trimming, Shaping

Tree or shrubs need tidying?

/1 Healthier trees. Correct pruning removes dead and diseased wood so your trees put their energy into strong, healthy growth.
/2 Safer yards. We take out hazardous limbs hanging over homes, driveways, sheds and power lines before they come down on their own.
/3 Better views & light. Careful crown thinning and lifting opens up your outlook and lets light back into the garden.
/4 Done right. Our certified arborists prune to Australian Standard AS 4373, no lopping, no butchering, just clean cuts that last.

Pruning that keeps your trees healthy and your yard safe

Pruning & Trimming

There's a big difference between hacking a tree back and pruning it properly. We selectively remove dead, diseased and crossing branches, lift low limbs and thin dense canopies, all to Australian Standards. The result is a tree that's healthier, safer and looks the way nature intended. Whether it's a single overgrown gum or a whole yard of neglected greenery, we'll get it sorted.

Shaping young trees so they grow up strong

Shaping & Formative Pruning

A little expert attention early saves a lot of trouble later. Formative pruning on young trees builds a strong, balanced structure, prevents weak forks and stops branches from causing problems as the tree matures. For established trees, shaping keeps hedges, feature trees and screening looking tidy and deliberate, not overgrown. We'll tell you honestly what your trees actually need.

Coastal Conditions

Salt-laden winds, sandy soils and big summer storms put local trees under real stress. We prune with the coast in mind, reducing wind-sail on exposed trees, clearing storm-vulnerable limbs and keeping your canopy strong heading into bushfire and storm season. Local trees, local conditions, local crew that knows them.

F.A.Q

Common Questions?

What's the difference between pruning, trimming and lopping?
Pruning and trimming are about selectively removing the right branches to keep a tree healthy, safe and well-shaped. Lopping (or topping) is cutting a tree back hard and indiscriminately, which stresses it and causes weak, messy regrowth. We prune to Australian Standard AS 4373 — never lop.
When is the best time to prune my trees?
For most trees, late autumn to winter (around June to August) is ideal, as they're dormant and bounce back well in spring. Flowering trees are best pruned just after they finish flowering. Dead, damaged or dangerous limbs can be removed safely any time of year.
How much can you cut off without harming the tree?
As a rule we remove no more than about 25% of a tree's canopy in one go. Taking too much at once stresses the tree and triggers weak regrowth. If a tree needs a big reduction, we'll often stage it across more than one visit.
Can you reduce a tree's height without topping it?
Yes. A proper crown reduction shortens and reshapes the canopy back to healthy growth points while keeping the tree's natural form. That's very different from topping, which leaves ugly stubs and weak, hazardous regrowth.
Can pruning open up my view or let in more light?
Absolutely. Crown thinning and lifting let filtered light, breezes — and views — through without harming the tree. It's one of our most popular jobs for coastal homes.
Do you prune hedges, palms and shrubs too?
Yes. As well as trees, we shape hedges, clean up palms and tidy overgrown shrubs. If it's green and needs a trim, we can help.
Do I need council approval to prune a tree?
Minor pruning and maintenance is usually fine, and bushfire clearing under the 10/50 scheme often needs no approval. Larger works on significant trees can require consent depending on your council zone. We'll let you know and can sort any checks for you.
