Stump Griding

Stump Griding

Grind away those stumps

/1 Reclaim your space. Grinding the stump frees up your lawn or garden bed so you can replant, pave or just mow in peace.
/2 Stop the regrowth. Removing the stump and major roots stops suckering and stops the tree growing back.
/3 No more trip hazards. A ground-out stump means no more catching the mower, stubbing toes or tripping guests.
/4 Pest-free. Old stumps attract termites, borers and fungi. Grinding them out protects your other trees and your home.

Clean & Tidy

Grinding makes a mess of chips and soil, so we clean it all up. You can keep the grindings to backfill the hole or use as mulch, or we'll cart it away and leave the site immaculate. That clean-finish promise is part of every job we do, big or small.

F.A.Q

Common Questions?

What's the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?
Stump removal digs the whole stump and root ball out, which is disruptive and leaves a big hole. Stump grinding uses a machine to chip the stump down into mulch below ground level — faster, tidier and far less damaging to your yard.
How far below the surface do you grind?
Usually around 150 to 300mm below ground level, which is plenty for laying turf or a garden bed. If you're planning to replant a tree or build in the same spot, let us know and we can grind deeper.
Will the tree grow back after grinding?
No. Grinding out the stump stops it resprouting. Some species can sucker from surface roots, and if that's a risk for your tree we'll talk you through the options before we start.
What happens to the wood chips left behind?
Grinding produces a pile of chips and soil. You're welcome to keep them to backfill the hole or use as mulch, or we can rake them out and cart them away so you're left with a clean, level patch.
Can you grind stumps in tight or hard-to-reach spots?
Yes. Our grinder fits through standard gates and into tight backyards, beside fences and around garden beds where bigger machines can't reach. If access is really limited, just let us know and we'll plan for it.
Can I plant or lay turf where the stump was?
Yes, once the grindings are removed and topped up with soil. Fresh wood chips can rob the soil of nitrogen as they break down, so for planting we recommend clearing the grindings and adding good topsoil first.
Do you grind surface roots as well?
We can grind out protruding surface roots that are tripping hazards or in the way of turf and paving. Tell us what's bothering you and we'll factor it into the quote.
